Mom and Sally

Mom with a friend named Sally.

The quilt wall behind them is made out of real fabric that we pasted to the wall. Very 70's.

The shelf with all the goodies on it came out of a barn.
I think it was a place where the chickens to roosted.

The apple head guy is clearly seen. Also mentioned HERE and HERE

I also see a frog that Mom painted on a rock and an old insulator off a power line.

What other oddities are there?

A baby doll under glass. (Mom will have to give us the details on this one.)

A tin type picture of Mom with her Mother and my Aunt Carol.

In the corner to the right is a picture of Mom with her brothers and sister.

A picture of us boys hangs in the same cubbyhole with a with a fake rabbit.
A candle frog and a "Ted's Best" label off a sack of potatoes is also here.

The five is there because there were five of us in the family at the time.
Contrary to popular belief it is not there because Mom was a big Jackson five fan.

Artist

Here is my Mother the artist in 1973.

Looks like she is at an art fair in front of a Woolworth's store.
My guess is that this is in Beechgrove.

Look like she has Brett and I working the other table for her.

Mom was sitting in front of her paintings while Brett and I are in front of the craft table.
I remember helping make these or watching Mom makes these and feeling like I helped.
She used walnut halves and turned them into owls.

I remember these being around the house too.
I think it was different colored beans behind glass. Classic 70's.
I see an owl on one of the selves too.

I do remember making these and I still might have one in my possesion.
It is a donkey made from clothes pins. He even had googly eyes.

I wonder why I don't remember anyone buy from our table?
Wouldn't you trust these to to make change for you?

Art Show

Here is Mom at another art fair.

My guess is this is at the Penrod art festival. If it is it seems to me something happened and we didn't go back. What was the deal mother?

Is this your friend Vivian with you?

The Artist 2

Here is Mom at an art fair.

It was always fun to go to the art fairs and meet different people and see different styles of art.

We would always compare and could leave the show saying Mom's paintings were the best.

Others thought so too because at the next show we would see where artists had "borrowed" our Mothers style or subject matter.

I guess that just proves the old adage was true.

Imitation is the best form of flattery.

Blue Jay

Mom commented on "Christmas 6".

I notice one of my paintings on the wall..the big
blue jay painting on a cedar shake. Grandma White loved to watch the blue jays outside the window (behind uncle Ed's head). She would share how mean those birds were to the cardinals...but God made up for their meanness by making them so pretty. In fact, the fact that she actually liked watching birds was something that surprised me about my Mom in her later years. I painted the blue jay for her because of that "surprise". And, out of view on the other side of the shadow box was the mate to her fowl duo...a "lovely" (also oversized) painting of a cardinal. Just goes to show that Mom's are always proud of their kid's artwork - even if their child will be embarrassed by it in later years.

I found some slides of Mom's paintings.

I don't know what your are embarrassed about I always loved and was proud of your paintings.

The raccoon's were my favorite.

The Artist

Here is our mother the artist.
She was very serious about her craft.

I have this painting hanging over my fireplace.
