Disney World Alien Abduction

Alien-abduction

I salvaged this slide from a pile that Dad was tearing the paper off the slide to recycle.

After I scanned it I was looking at it and was trying to decide what to animate in it.
Then I noticed that guy.

I looked back in the pile and found another picture taken at the same time and the same guy was in it too!

Look for yourself.Click on image to enlarge

Goofy guy looking like he is posing for Dad, right? Funny.

Now look at the other picture I found in the stack.

Same guy but now he is totally creepy.

Is he checking out Mom?
Maybe he is looking to abduct one of us kids? Dad was always warning us about this happening.

Then it came to me as I concentrated on the slide.

What is that expression of his?
What was he thinking?

Then I found myself looking where he was looking and thinking what he was thinking!

Does Disney World have a nursing home day?

Mystery solved.
CSI's got nothing on me.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

20,000 leagues 1

1978 and the family is waiting in line to ride Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride!

I remember being nervous and excited at the same time as we waited to board the submarine of Captain Nemo.

20,000 leagues 2
Nemos crew gave us directions on how to board the submarine as it came into port.

We climbed through a hatch in the top of the sub and walked down the length of it.
I remember it having two benches that ran the length of the submarine and you sat in front of a porthole to look out into the murky depths of the sea.

After everyone had boarded the Captain told us that we would soon be diving and to prepare ourselves.

So I took a deep breath and held it as bubbles ran past the window of our submarine as we dove to untold depths.

20,000 League Diver 1

We saw Nemos men as the worked their under sea gardens.

20,000 League-Diver-2

We also saw them wrestle with never before seen beasts.

20,000 League Fish

We even saw strange creatures pass our windows.

Very fun ride.
I don't think it is at Walt Disney World any more though sadly.
My kids never got to ride it. It was always shut down or being updated when we were there.
Hard telling what it is now.

I am not sure what it is today but I do have a suggestion for what it could be or at least what these slides reminded me of.

Lost!

I can't say that I watch very much network programming but I do watch Lost.
I look forward to watching it each week with my wife!

After looking at my Dad's slides of Disney's ride I mashed the two together to see how it would look.

Two slides in particular caught my eye.

Lost-20,000 leagues

You could hear the works say "Namaste!" as you got of the sub onto the island.

Who know maybe Walt Disney was inspired after jumping through time on a strange island?

••••••••••••••

The diver pulling on the cable reminded me of the first time we saw the cable on the show.

Lost-Sayid-cabel

That is what my mind imagined. Not a place to live on the bottom of the ocean!

Not sure how the sires will end but we have enjoyed it so far.

The Carters

These are some pictures of a visit that my family made to my Aunt and Uncle Carters house back in 1974.

This is my Uncle Leslie in his easy chair telling some big story.

He would also do magic tricks for us.

He would make marbles disappear and then they would fall out of our pant legs or come out of our ears. We loved it.
This is my Aunt Dixie.

Looks like she is cooking supper. Mmmm!

We loved to see her but hated to leave her.
When we left it was required that we give her some "sugar".

As she kissed us good bye and while my cousins laughed and giggled she would declare that we had "Strawberry sugar!" and that she wanted more.

Which means my brothers and I hid behind our Mothers legs.

This is Linda.

Thats right Linda Carter.

When Wonder Woman was on T.V. I told all my friends in middle school that I was related to Linda Carter.

They would say "Really? and I could honestly say "Yes".
I didn't bother to tell them that the Linda Carter I was related too wasn't Wonder Woman though.
Why ruin it for them?

Here is the face she made for me so I could show all my friends a picture of Linda Carter.

That is her sister Brenda sitting next to her.

Now Brenda has magically changed into my cousin Loretta.

I suspect that a phone call caused Brenda to leave the couch.

I remember the girls sitting on the floor with their fingers shoved into their ears trying to talk to their boyfriends on the phone while we were there.

Their Dad tormented them while they were on the phone.
My Dad joined in on the teasing too.

I just took notes and now torment my kids while they talk to boyfriends and girlfriends on the phone.

This is Brenda after getting off the phone.

Dad or Uncle Leslie must have gone to far in their teasing.

Loretta and Linda don't look to sure about the story that their Dad must be telling.

I noticed something on the shelf above them.

See that Mickey Mouse I have circled?

I made that.

We had a toy called Shaker Maker.
You added some powder and water into a mold and shook it for all it was worth.
After it set up and you pried it from the mold you could paint it.

I made a Mickey Mouse for my sugar stealing Aunt Dixie.
I think I thought this might help me escape the sugar raid but it probably just made it worse.

I do remember being surprised the next time we visited and I saw that the Mickey Mouse was up on the shelf.
After this surprise I made it a point to look for Mickey year after year and it was always there.

I swelled with pride seeing it each time.

It shank each year I saw it but it remained on public display until they moved.

Image from HERE and thanks too to Brian A for helping me remember the name of the toy.

You can visit Brian A's toy blog HERE.

Last but not least this is my cousin Leslie Kay.

I remember that she asked Brett and I if we wanted to play Jacks.

We said "Sure" but Brett and I were expecting a card game.
Nope. It was Jacks. A little rubber ball and metal jacks that look like something Batman would throw down to explode the tires of a car.

She taught us the rules and we had fun playing a girls game.
Onesies, towsies and so on.

We then went outside to shoot basketball.

Good memories.

"Robin Hood, Little John plot to steal Prince Johns gold."

This is my one of my wife's favorite Disney movies.

The movie had one of my Dad's favorite singers in it who not only used his voice for the Rooster but also sang some great songs in the movie, Roger Miller.

This is only a one reel story and so the story is a condensed version.

Happy Birthday Dad

This is a cake Mom made for Dad 37 years ago today.

If you click on the picture you can see the hill at the top of the cake with the years approaching 30 and the arrow pointing to the rocking chair.

No candles just the phrase "For he WAS a jolly good fellow!"

If Dad had candles on a cake today and we lit them all I wonder what that would look like?

I don't know for sure what it would look like but if you were close enough to try to blow them out and you had your shirt off I think you would look like Dad in this slide.

Happy birthday Dad!

Sorry I was buried all day long yesterday and had no time to post anything but this picture should make up for it.

You can almost hear him gurgle can't you?

Disney

Another classic Disney photo 1972.

A photo spot filled with ears and duck bills and as a matter of fact when you squeezed that duck bill it quacked.

We must have squeezed the bill to much because Chad doesn't look that happy and for that matter neither does Mom.
It looks like Brett and I are feeling the Disney love though.

Walt Disney's Birthday

Orange juice and Mouse ears can you get any more Florida than that?

Today is Walt Disney's birthday and my family has had many good vacations at his parks, so this seems like a good day to post some Disney pictures.

I loved Disney world and I still do, it's just that since Eisner made it a fleecing center it takes a few years in between visits for me to get the bad taste out of my mouth and I save enough money to go back.

Watch for more Disney slides to come!
